“Remember… Remember… The 5th of November…”

Yes I know it’s not the 5th of November. I know we are right at the beginning of a Brand New Year. But today’s title comes from one of my favorite movies adapted from a graphic novel. And I think the title strikes a cord with a theme of the coming year. And to steal another line from that body of work…

“Words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth…”

This line is then finished with.

“And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with…”

The “With” that V speaks of in his address to the people of London has to do with the base of the story being told.
Well I’m not part of that story. But for those that are familiar with my writing on this blog I find meaning in words. The words may not even have to do with what’s being said but with the feeling I get when I hear or read them. But that’s the power of words; they bring about feelings in people.

So lets try a little experiment.

New Years Resolutions

Does this bring about ANY feelings in you?
Do you instantly think about a whole string of things you said you’d do?
How many of these promises have you made to yourself?
How many times have you forgotten them within a month?

This is a huge problem. THIS is the thing I would be speaking of as “TERRIBLY WRONG” if I were to finish V’s statement.
Its the way some people view words.
Words Carry Power.
Words and Promises Carry Power.
But if you don’t believe in them, then that power is gone.

What are your “New Years Resolutions?”

Now don’t rush into this.
It should be a promise.
It should be words that you speak to yourself.
And every time you feel any self-doubt, every time you feel the journey is too hard, remember…

You’ve promised yourself something.

“Words offer the means to meaning,” – What is it going to be? What are you going to promise yourself?

“And for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth,” – Do you believe the words your speaking to yourself? What are you going to do to make this promise happen?

If you don’t believe, if you’re not willing to work and sacrifice, then the promise holds no meaning, the words hold no power.

Today could be the first step on the biggest journey of your life.
But you have to speak the words to yourself.
You have to make a promise.
And you owe it to yourself to keep it.

“New Years Resolutions,” – If reading these words still bring about a cliché feeling in you, then you’ve missed the whole point of the words you’ve read.

What do you owe to yourself this year? I’m personally tired of looking back on the could have, should have, would haves. If it really means something to you, if there are really true meaning in the words you promise yourself. Then it’s simple, don’t forget them.

“Remember… Remember… The 5th of November…”
